Food Donation Drive!

Yay! Praise God for a bumper harvest of donations!

This year, for our Girls' Brigade Service Initiative, we decided to partner with YMCA-My Manna Store for a food donation drive. We decided to trust God for His provision as we embarked on this exciting journey, and indeed He has been our Provider!

We would also like to thank all the students, parents and teachers for their wonderful support, for everyone was so enthusiastic in bringing food items to donate... As a result of your kind donations, our food donation drive was a roaring success!

Here are some pictures of our food donation journey:

Food collection days: 29-31 Jul
Our girls were such a wonderful help when they were manning the collection point. They took the initiative to split up the work to sort the food, and some even came on all 3 days to help out! We are so proud of you, girls! =)

The girls starting on their journey & having fun!

Doing some serious sorting here =p

After a while, we ran out of boxes! And the donations kept coming! So we had to stack the food items up the best we can =p Look at all those food! It's like the heaven's warehouse!

It's time to pack! 1 Aug
Our girls came bright & early this saturday morning! Before we started, we had a devotion session by Mdm Juliet, who shared with us on the importance of caring & giving. Ms Tracey from YMCA then shared with our girls a brief background of YMCA and the people we would be supporting through our food drive.

Our girls busy at work! We had a great time helping to sort out the canned food- we had to ensure that the donated items have not expired, then we had to sort them according to the food categories. =)

Look how neat the room looks after the food items have all been packed!

The food items are on their way to their new homes... May the food bless the residents who need them! =)

Acts 20: 35
In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'

GB Day, 13th July 2009

Dear parent and girls,

GB Day is the day where we commemorate the work of the Girls’ Brigade. GB Singapore started when one school teacher came from England with a passion and a compassion for girls to grow to become responsible and confident women.

Today, there are over 70 GB companies in Singapore with the mission to help every girl discover her uniqueness, reach her fullest potential, embrace good moral values and to prepare every girl to be a positive influence in her generation in Singapore and beyond.

Our program and activities are designed to develop each girl to her fullest potential by equipping, empowering and enabling Every Girl to be a Leader.

GB Day also marks the beginning of the GB fortnight (a fund raising event), during which we hope to raise funds to support our work among the girls. Hence, we would also like to take this opportunity to invite our friends, family, well-wishers and partners to contribute to our work in making a difference in the lives of our girls.

We will be celebrating Girls’ Brigade Day 2009 on Monday, 13 July 2009.

Girls, do note the two things that you will need to do on that day.

1) Wear your GB uniform for the full day
2) Meet at the meeting point at 7am for collection of GB fortnight cards.

Hope you girls have a great GB day!

See you then!

No GB on 4 Jul (sat)

Dear parents & girls,

Please note that there will be NO GB parade on the first week of school (4 Jul, sat). This is in line with the school's efforts to decrease mass gatherings as part of the H1N1 precautions taken to safeguard the health of the students.

As such, we'll see you only on week 2, which is 11 Jul.

See you then!

Enrollment Ceremony and LGT Challenge Post Update

Hi everyone! We so missed everyone and hope that you are enjoying your holdiays. Can't wait to see you in July!

Finally, we got down to writing about the two major events In May....oops...

23 May 2009 - Enrollment Service at Woodlands Secondary School

The Enrollment Ceremony is our annual event whereby we celebrate God's faithfulness, enroll new members and re-dedicate existing members. We also congratulate our graduating members who have been faithfully and actively involved. This year we are very blessed with 21 new girls!

That day, we all went early for the parade rehearsal. During the rehearsal, the heat was strong but many of you endured the sun and went through the full rehearsal. Well done, girls!

As we finished the rehearsal, the rain started pouring. As a result, the parade was cancelled and we proceeded straight to the hall for the ceremony instead. After the ceremony, we had our fill of delicious catered food and ice cream! Look out in the slideshow for pictures taken that day!

To our two graduate members, Celine and Natania, we appreciate your involvement with us for the past years. All the best for your coming PSLE and future endeavors!

30 May 2009 - LGT Challenge at the Botanic Gardens

It was a mad scramble to get our 3Rs costumes together before we headed off and we were so blessed to have such creative mothers amongst us! Thank you Cynthia, Kui Moi, Sally, Meng Hu and Adeline! Our girls were decked out in ang pows, newspapers and Grace was a very pretty princess with her bevy of "slaves". What a fantastic costume Grace!

What a very hot day it was but 29 girls and 8 parents had a wonderful time at the Gardens. It was indeed a time to "Celebrate Our family" as the theme of the LGT Challenge goes. We bonded as we "Seek, Explore and Discover" the sprawling grounds of the Botanic Gardens, resourcefully fillling up the answers for our activity sheets! Did you know there is actaully a Canonball Tree?

And then it rained. Some of us were caught in the rain and Grace's innovative costume became our shelter. :) Talk about REUSING!

We don't know what prize we won (the PA system wasn't the best...) but one of our teams won a prize! Well done everyone for completing the Challenge and braving the weather! Girls, you will be getting My Responsibility badge for participating in the LGT Challenge as the whole experience has taught us much our role in conserving the environment.

18 April

Thank you 23rd Coy! For teaching the new girls basic drill, for leading singspiration and for leading games! We totally enjoyed having you at our parade! And we are so glad to see M'am Kit again and pictures of her grandchildren! We missed you and we think your grandchildren are soooo cute! Also we are so pleased to see our old girl, Lorena Wan who came to visit with bags of snacks! Thank you Lorena and we look forward to seeing you again!

Today at devotion, we watched a beautiful and moving music video and learned about how much God loves us, why Christ had to die on the cross and how His resurrection gives us new life. Now we know why Good Friday is good, for us and why we celebrate Easter! We pray that all of us will always be thankful for God's precious gift of His Son and that we will praise him and obey Him and be bold to share God's love with our family and friends who do not know Jesus. To help us remember the message, M'am Juliet taught us how to make bracelets and keychains using four colored beads; RED for Christ's death on the cross, BLACK for Christ was buried, WHITE for Christ is raised from death and GREEN for Christ's resurrection that gives us new life.

Today, we also received our badges; GOD'S BOOK - from our lessons on the parables of Jesus and JOURNEY- for our visit to Bukit Chandu. The Yr 1 girls were so thrilled to finally get their first badges! For those girls who did not earn either of these badges, don't worry! M'am Juliet has promised that she will design the activities for the rest of the year to ensure that you get a chance to earn all your badges. Just remember to come for parades!

There will be NO parade next week (25 April) due to exams. Please remember to pray for one another to study hard and bring glory to God! See you all again on 16 May! God bless!

"My new bracelet!"

Bronze for Drill Competition!

Yay! We have won the bronze award for our drill competition! All of us are delighted with the result, given the limited number of training sessions and time constraint that we had.

Thank God and all who had made this possible. = ) Let’s all work harder for the next round of competition in 2 years time!

Have a good week, and remember to meet in school at 8am for our Bukit Chandu outing on coming Saturday.

P/S:I am still trying to get the pictures from the cameraman, will post it if i manage to get hold of them.

7 March 2009 - 14 days to Drill Competition!

As the Drill Competition draws nearer, our team is training harder! The officers watched the video playback of their drill session last Saturday and were so impressed by the tremendous progress our girls have made! We are so very proud of them! Well done girls!!! And a big thank you to our wonderful and patient drill instructors - M'ams Irene, Priscilla, Clare.

The rest of us who are not on the drill team got together and under the guidance of Uncle Daniel from ARPC, made a fabulous banner to support our girls come 21 March. Our girls are so talented; they can really draw! The banner is still in progress and we will finish painting it when we meet again on 18 March!

Here are some pictures taken during the banner making session.

This weekend (14 and 15 March), our P5 girls are off to Junior Leadership Training Camp (JLTC) at the BB/GB Sembawang campsite. It promises to be a wonderful time of learning and bonding for the girls and we look forward to them rising up as squad leaders when they return!

Let's all remember to pray for a rewarding time for our P5 girls at JLTC, and for perseverance for our amazing drill team!

Please note that there will no parade on 14 March.

Thank you for donating to GB Fortnight! =D

We've been looking forward to meeting the girls all week, and it's wonderful to see them all bright and cheery in the morning!

Our senior girls are steadily improving in their creative drill. As the Drill Competition date nears, we are getting more and more excited for them! Seniors, stay focused and practice hard, and you'll savour the sweet fruits of your labour... Meanwhile, our young ones are also making good progress in their basic drill commands... Keep it up! =D

Today, we went through the parable of The Prodigal Son, where we learnt about the story of our father's love. Even though the son went out and spent all the father's money, the father was still extremely glad to have his son back and even threw a huge feast to celebrate his return! It really reminds us of God's love, and that He is always loving and merciful.

Craftwork was very exciting and meaningful too, as it was time to show our thanks to all the uncles & aunties who have donated so generously to support our GB Fortnight last year. We made cards for them and we're going to send them out!

Charmaine came up with the game of the day! Together with a couple of other girls, they taught the rest of us how to play "Octopus", and we had great fun!!!

See you girls on 7 Mar! Please remember that we do not have parade next week, study hard for your CA! We'll be praying for you!

WE LOVE GB!!!

Drill Competition - The Challenge Shield

Hi girls, this is the challenge shield for our drill competition. The challenge shield will be awarded to the best drill team.(which might be us!)

To the drill team girls: There is only one month to go! So hang in there and do your very best! Good luck!:)

14 Feb 09 Parade

We had a massive turnout this Saturday with a total strength of 37 girls! Well done girls for your good attendance.

This morning, we started off with an opening parade. Following that, the girls commenced with their drill sessions. The senior drill team practiced their creative drill while the new girls learnt new drill commands and basic drill movements.

Next,Mdm Juliet led the combined devotion on the Parable of the Seeds and the Soil. Through the devotion, the boys and girls learnt that seeds can fall on different places, like paths, rocks, thorns or soil. The key message of the devotion is that only the seeds that fall onto good soil will produce fruitful crops. Thus, we hope that we will all be like seeds that fall onto good soil.

After the devotion, the drill team continued with the preparation for their drill competition. Keep up with the good effort and all the best for your competition, girls!

Can you tell what formation is this?

In another classroom, some of our senior and new girls enjoyed a craftwork session. The craftwork reinforces the message of the devotion on the Parables of the Seeds and Good Soil.

The final products!

The creative handicraft made by the girls. Can you tell which is made by whom?

Lastly, we ended our beautiful Saturday morning with the GB vesper.See you girls this coming Saturday!:)

7 Feb Parade

We thank God for the great turnout at last Saturday's parade! Our new recruits look so smart in their brand new uniforms!

The senior girls were hard at work, training for the Creative Drill Competition in March. It is so encouraging to see them so committed and giving their best to the team. 12 girls will be selected eventually, based on their performance and committment. A big thank you to our volunteer drill instructors who are so patient with the girls!
We also kicked off a series of devotions on the Parables of Jesus. Full attendence for this series will earn each girl the first badge of the year - God's Book. Last week we learnt from Matthew 13: 44-46 that the kingdom of heaven is like a hidden treasure. It is very valuable and worth seeking. While the senior girls practised their Creative Drill, our recruits had an enjoyable time looking for hidden pictures in a Magic Eye picture and worked at decoding a hidden message. We wrapped up our meeting with the girls' favourite game - SARDINES!
All eight of our P5 girls (Bin Xin, Xuan Ning, Maple, Grace, Mindy, Si Ying, Ru-En and Yi Xinn) have been selected for the Junior Leadership Training Camp on Mar 14 - 15. The camp seeks to groom our girls to be leaders through experential learning and to help build their character and resilience. We look forward to them successfullly fulfilling all the requirements and become Junior Leaders!
See you all at the next parade on 14 February! An early Happy Valentine's Day to all!

Welcome Parade - 17 Jan

It was great meeting all the new girls and their parents!

While the parents were in the interaction room having the second part of the briefing, our girls were having a whale of a time playing games to get to know one another. The perennial "Sardines" was a huge hit with our new girls, and they had such a laugh trying to seek out the sardines that were hiding.

We ended off with a sumptuous buffet... Which was made even more wonderful by the various contributions from the girls and their parents! Thanks to Mindy & her parents who brought the yummy jellies, Jerica and her parents who brought the festive new year goodies & other snacks; Xuan Ning and her parents who brought the delicious fishballs, Elysia and her parents who contributed little pressies to give away, and Elizabeth and her parents who helped to source for the door gifts.

Special thanks also go to our girls- the efficient organising committee for this party! Sher Li and team did a great job planning the games, Xuan Ning & her team brought yummy food, and Elizabeth and her team bought cute little gifts. =D

We couldn't have done it without you girls!
Greatest thanks to YOU, our parents, for supporting your daughters in their planning... It's great to journey together with you to see our young girls grow in their capacity to lead and to serve. =)

*Please note that there is no parade on 24 Jun. Parade will resume on 31 Jan.

We will be posting our calendar of events for the year and will be updating the details of our activities on this blog . Hence, please bookmark the link to check for the latest announcement every week.
